2003 GTW Congress Artists

Penny McManigal

World renowned artist Penny McManigal facilitated a participatory art experience for representatives attending the Congress called Weaving the Dream! Participants co-created the symbol of our "New Fabric" in a Sacred Circle" pattern! The two symbols of "Weaving" and a "Sacred Circle" have been chosen because they have appeared continuously as art forms around the world since the dawn of civilization.

Each delegate was asked to bring her own selected "gift" of cloth, to be co-creatively "woven" into this Sacred Circle. These colorful "gifts" consisted of ANY piece (peace) of cloth about 3-4 feet long x 4-12 inches wide (i.e., a scarf, a tie, a piece of torn T-shirt, a marvelous hand-woven offering, a remnant from an ancestor's or loved one's belongings, etc.). These fabrics were used to create the weave as part of the opening ceremony. The closing ritual included each participant taking home a different piece of fabric as the weave was disassembled.

Seena Frost

Seena B. Frost, M. Div., M.A. studied theology at Yale Divinity School, married, raised four children, and then received a Master's degree in psychology from Santa Clara University. She is a California licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Special trainings with Jean Houston and Robin Van Doren inspired the combining of three of her life passions: spirituality, psychotherapy, and creativity. The SoulCollageSM process and book have issued from this magical mix.

I invite anyone who is coming to the Congress to create and bring one Envisioning Collage to exhibit there. Let's make them all circular, any size. A cardboard base that is about 18 inches in diameter works well. They need to be light and easy to hang. Create a collage using images from magazines, newspapers, your own photo file, etc. Envision whatever you choose: peace, a safe planet, global cooperation, the protection of the 'children's fire'. If the spirit moves you, write a poem to go with it. I will bring some materials to the conference and perhaps we can even make a few in our 'spare time'. Collages are fun, exciting to make, and anyone can do it. You are welcome to e mail me with questions. seena@soulcollage.com .
