Why I Go

2012 6 16 Deborah Zaher in Bury Small I’ve got my Warm Weather Clothes picked out for the trip from Juneau, Alaska to Tampa, Florida. We have our plane tickets. We have a reservation to overnight in Seattle, and my husband Doug has booked a Tampa hotel on the beach. After the last bell is rung, I will join him so we can walk on the beach together, and be in the sunshine for a few days before we head back to the Tongass Rainforest that surrounds us at home.

Not every former Matrix Convener goes, but I must go. It feeds my soul. It makes me happy. I know there will be laughter. I know there will be tears because sitting in circle is a safe space and tears just come. There will be learning. We already know that from Jeanie DeRousseau’s letter. Jeanie is one of the original GTW women and I’m so anxious to see her again! Ann Rice is another one of the midwives of Gather the Women and curators of Circle Practice, and it’s been ages since I’ve seen her. Deborah Elizabeth Zaher will be there and that makes me so happy! We met for the first time in a hotel in Bury, England several years ago. Gather the women truly means gathering the women.

Writing the GTW Blog has been a way for me to stay a part of the Matrix. Technically, I am the Regional Coordinator for Juneau, Alaska, and I held many circle gatherings with my friend Darcy. We haven’t been able to do that for quite a while and I miss it. Poor health has kept my body at half-speed the last couple of years, but my mind still works!

In three weeks, I will be in the circle. Home.
